WCCI Food and Clothing Banks
Disaster Relief
The WCCI Food and Clothing Banks is officially recognized by the GA VOAD, FEMA and the American Red Cross as a disaster relief support organization that assist with providing food and clothing to people impacted by disasters. The food bank and staff representative has been certified in emergency disaster response under a federal government program called “Certified Emergency Response Team” (C.E.R.T.).
WCCI provided emergency disaster relief support to the American Red Cross in response to the recent floods that occurred in Georgia during in September 2009. An estimated 8,000 bottles of water and 1,600 hygiene packs were provided to the American Red Cross to distribute to families affected by the floods. WCCI members, partners, friends and people through the community donated food, clothing, cleaning and hygiene supplies to the food bank to help those in need. Approximately 32,000 pounds of various emergency relief donations were provided to WCCI. Volunteers helped prepare 2,207 food packs and additional relief supplies to distribute.
Biography:
The WCCI Food Bank is a non-profit community food bank that provides food to distressed families seven days per week, twenty four hours per day. The food bank provides general food assistance every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and emergency food assistance during non-general food bank days and hours.
The WCCI food Bank has served the community and its members since 1995. Food assistance is provided to an average of 170-200 families per month here at WCCI in College Park, Georgia. The food bank also provide large bulk food donations to other local food bank agencies which has often increased the amount of families fed up to 27,000 in one month. The WCCI Food Bank is committed to providing nutritious food to families and putting a stop to hunger.
