UNDERSTANDING GRACE
EMPOWERING CHANGE
To be an expression of Jesus' love by responding to the (indirect) appeals for help, received through Prayer requests submitted; to help strengthen community relations; and to minister to the spiritual needs of families, the lonely and the despairing.
Our impact
Three families were assisted:
- one, based on a prayer request emailed to us asking for prayer for the husband who is expected to be released from prison next month. The mother, with their two children, are praying that God will bring about a change in him.
- The second, a young family, was confidentially referred to us last Christmas, by a social services worker, who explained the recipient had escaped a very abusive relationship, with her two children. She was a beneficiary of our 2015 Christmas Toy Drive.
- Our third recipient, a mature female, appealed to us through a prayer request, for financial breakthrough as she’s “very close to ending up on the streets”.
Event highlight
Our Food gift packages were distributed in three phases as outlined above – by post mail, by visitation and by hands-on meal-serving at a luncheon for the wider community. We were able to help feed just over 200 people altogether. We mailed Food Gift Cards (valued at $50.00 each) to two families on the west coast. For the three families that received the Food Gift Baskets valued at $100.00 each, we packaged rice, potatoes, mac & cheese, tin items and a Turkey, per family. Each of the five packages delivered included ministry resource material appropriate to each family’s need and circumstances, and included a letter of encouragement with Dr. Dollar’s signature affixed.
On Saturday, October 08, members of the CDM staff, and representatives of the CDM Missions committee journeyed across town to make the visitation to these households and prayed with each family.
A donation of eight (8) Turkeys valued at approximately $300.00 was made to Yonge Street Mission, to assist with two of their community Thanksgiving banquets that catered to 205 people. A few of our CDM staff were able to attend and assist in serving at the community dinner, wearing our branded CDGM T-shirts.
This year's CDM Thanksgiving project was organized and executed by CDM Canada's Mission committee. All told, just over 200 hundred people benefitted from our contributions, and a total of $865.29 was spent under the Love Thy Neighbor banner for this season.
Another success
The families who received the gift packages were truly appreciative and blessed by our gesture of kindness. One of the recipients on the west coast is a foster care giver, has been a faithful supporter of this Ministry, and trusts and relies on our Ministry especially for prayers and encouragement. She tearfully expressed how grateful she is for our help and informed us of how timely our donation is because she was "just wondering how her household would make it through the month with the limited food supplies they had". Then we called and made our promise of help.
